Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@lakelandgutters.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Seamless gutters are aluminium gutters that are formed in one continuous length on site, rather than assembled from multiple sections joined together. Traditional gutter systems have joints every few metres where pieces connect. Over time, those joints are where most leaks and failures occur.

With seamless systems, the gutter is produced from a roll of aluminium using a specialist machine and is shaped to the exact length of each run of your roofline. The only joints are at corners and downpipe outlets.

This creates a cleaner appearance, fewer potential leak points, and a much stronger overall system.

Plastic (uPVC) gutters are widely used because they are cheap to install, but they often require replacement after years of exposure to weather. The joints can fail, brackets can sag, and the material can become brittle.

Seamless aluminium gutters provide a number of advantages:

  • Fewer leaks – with far fewer joints, there are fewer places for water to escape.
  • Long lifespan – aluminium does not rust and performs well in harsh weather.
  • Stronger construction – aluminium is more rigid than plastic and holds its shape better over time.
  • Cleaner appearance – continuous runs create a more attractive, streamlined finish.
  • Lower maintenance – fewer joints means fewer areas that require repair or resealing.

This makes seamless systems particularly well suited to areas like Cumbria, where heavy rainfall places extra demand on rainwater systems.

Yes. Cumbria experiences some of the highest rainfall levels in the UK, so a reliable rainwater system is essential for protecting roofs, walls and foundations.

Seamless aluminium gutters are designed to cope well with heavy rain, and their strength and durability make them a good long-term solution for properties across the region.

While seamless aluminium systems are our main service, we also install other aluminium rainwater systems depending on the style and requirements of the property.

These include:

  • Extruded aluminium guttering – strong and durable systems often used on both residential and commercial buildings.
  • Cast aluminium guttering – traditionally styled guttering often used on period properties or heritage buildings.

This allows us to provide a system that suits both the appearance of the property and the performance required.

When installed correctly, aluminium gutter systems can last several decades. Aluminium is naturally corrosion resistant and performs well in wet climates.

Regular cleaning and basic maintenance will help ensure the system continues to perform properly over time.

The installation process typically involves:

  1. Measuring the roofline accurately.
  2. Forming the gutter on site using a seamless gutter machine.
  3. Installing the gutter with concealed brackets for strength and appearance.
  4. Connecting outlets and downpipes.
  5. Testing the system to ensure correct water flow.

Because the gutter is made on site, it fits the property precisely and avoids the need for multiple joints.

Seamless systems work particularly well on:

  • Detached and semi-detached houses
  • Larger residential properties
  • Renovation or replacement projects
  • Homes with repeated gutter leaks or joint failures

However, for some period properties or heritage buildings, cast aluminium guttering may be more appropriate to maintain the traditional appearance.

Our seamless aluminium gutters are available in a choice of five standard colours, selected to suit most properties and rooflines. These factory-finished colours are durable and designed to withstand the weather conditions commonly experienced in Cumbria.

The five standard colours are:

RAL 7016 - Matt Anthracite

RAL 9005 - Matt Black

BS08B29 - Matt Brown

RAL 7037 - Matt Grey

RAL 9016 - Satin White

These colours work well with most fascias, roof tiles and window frames, providing a neat and unobtrusive finish.

For properties where a wider colour choice is desired, our cast aluminium gutter systems are available in a much larger range of colours and finishes. This makes them particularly suitable for period properties, heritage buildings, or where a specific colour is required to match existing features.

You can see examples of the available colours in the photos below.

Yes. We can arrange a site visit to assess your existing guttering and roofline, measure the required runs, and discuss the most suitable aluminium system for your property.

Following the survey, we will provide a clear written quotation outlining the work required.
